Built With Bitcoin Foundation Constructs A School In Kenya And Showcases Bitcoin As A Force For Good

The Built With Bitcoin Foundation, a non-profit organisation, uses Bitcoin to work with local communities and partners to provide clean water, quality education and healthy food. This is done by building schools, water wells, sustainable farms, and other infrastructure.

Paxful, a peer to peer crypto exchange platform, built the school in collaboration with Zam Zam Water, an humanitarian organization that aims to eradicate poverty by providing clean, sustainable drinking water and quality education to rural villages all over the world.

It is a mix of a nursery school and a primary school. There are six classrooms, a teacher’s lounge, and a technology centre. It is equipped with electricity and a sustainable water well that provides clean water for the students and the surrounding community. It can also be connected to the internet.

Ray Youssef (CEO of Paxful, Executive Director of Built With Bitcoin Foundation), said that ‘Built With Bitcoin” is a testimony to the power and potential of cryptocurrency. We believe it can improve lives, and make the world better.

Shamory donated learning materials to the Built With Bitcoin foundation. Shamory is a family-owned company that creates Bitcoin cards games and books.

Yusuf Nezary is the Co-Founder and Director for Philanthropy of Built With Bitcoin foundation. For them, it’s more than just school systems and water wells. It’s about financial literacy and education in isolated communities because it’s so important for their journey towards financial freedom.

Although the school still relies on donations and well-wishers to continue operations, Guantai Kathurima (CEO of Bitcoin Mtaani), stated that the school plans to become self-sustaining once all upper-primary classes are complete. Guantai Kathurima has been a strong advocate for Bitcoin content translation into African languages.

Although the internet is full of negative headlines about Bitcoin such as Silk Road and bitcoin scams, leveraged Bitcoin trader liquidity, exchanges going bust, multi-million-dollar exchange hacks and bear market FUD, reality is very different. The Built With Bitcoin foundation has been working to make Bitcoin a force for good.

Built With Bitcoin is a simpler way to ensure that 92% of donations are directly directed to projects, compared with traditional foundations which have high overhead costs and inefficiencies when managing donor funds. 8% goes to administrative costs, such as website management and accounting. A separate grant fund covers all other costs associated with the project, including travel expenses and staff salaries.

The Built With Bitcoin foundation built a water source in Igbaruku Community (Kogi State), Nigeria, Africa in July. It serves approximately 1,000 people. This reduces time spent fetching water at a distant location and provides clean water for the community. The project taught members of the community about Bitcoin in their native languages.

The Foundation has built or repaired ten schools in Africa, seven solar projects and more than a dozen farming and water systems all over the globe. Yusuf stated in an interview that the Built With Bitcoin Foundation’s success can be measured not only by how many infrastructures they create but also by their ability connect and build trusting human relationships.
